AB OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the effectiveness of peer educators. METHODS:
In the four stage workshops of a school based AIDS prevention education
program, peer educators are trained to disseminate information to their
fellow classmates. RESULTS: Analysis of representative sample of the
workshops conducted by peer educators demonstrate positive effective
change as shown below: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSION:
Pilot studies show that the students leadership is critical. Training of
life skills such as decision-making, assertiveness, resisting peer
pressure and building self-esteem have a greater impact when the student
peer educators are also involved in disseminating awareness and
empowering their peers.
